SALARY INFORMATION

$76,169.60 - $82,014.40 Annually

  • Starting salary: $76,169.60
  • After Six Months of Successful Employment: $77,542.40
  • After One Year of Successful Employment: $78,915.20
  • Maximum salary is achieved after two years of employment.
Note: Annual salary adjustments may also occur based on collective bargaining agreements.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Building Mechanic II is responsible for performing assignments at the professional level, in accordance with State of Michigan, and City of Livonia building codes. Examples include:

  • Work as a crew leader, supervising and directing employees as assigned
  • Complete repairs or renovations of City facilities
  • Oversee all aspects of facility and equipment maintenance and repair
  • Maintain, schedule, and supervise facility maintenance and custodial needs
  • Perform preventative and general maintenance of systems  including filter replacements, pumps, etc.
  • Perform routine facility inspections, and custodial duties as required
  • Assist in the coordination or the set up and take down of equipment and furnishings for classes, programs, facility rentals and special events
  • Monitor automated systems
  • Maintain and make repairs to electrical, phone, and data systems
  • Maintain and make repairs to plumbing fixtures, lock & hardware
  • Perform interior painting, repair walls, ceilings, and floors
  • Perform related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND APPLICATION PROCESS

By the closing date of this announcement applicants must:


  1. Be a citizen of the United States or resident alien with the right to work in the United States and
  2. Have a high school diploma or a valid equivalency certificate; and
  3. Possess, maintain, or be eligible to get a State of Michigan Electrical, Plumbing, or HVAC Journeyman, or Master License; and
  4. Have three (3) years full-time paid experience in the electrical trade; and
  5. Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and have acceptable driving record; and
  6. Possess or be eligible for a Commercial Driver’s License-Group A; and
  7. Possess or be eligible for a valid Industrial Truck Driving Permit for the operation of a forklift

NOTE:  Candidates are required to submit an original high school diploma or GED certificate and original state certifications/licenses by the date of the interview. 

PARTS OF EXAMINATION AND WEIGHTS
Written Test - 50%*     Interview - 50% 

NOTE:  A maximum of ten qualified applicants with the highest passing score on the Written Test will be invited to the interview part of the examination.  Candidates must pass the Written Test and the interview in order to be placed on the eligible list.

*In the event there are three or fewer candidates who pass the Written Test, the Interview Panel will be waived, and the Parts of Examination and Weights will default to 100% Written Test.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

  • State of Michigan and City of Livonia building codes
Skill in:
  • Equipment repair
  • Facility maintenance
Ability to:
  • Perform facility inspections
  • Set up and take down equipment
  • Perform electrical and plumbing repairs

NOTE:  At the time of appointment, applicants are required to pass a pre-employment medical examination conducted by a physician authorized by the City of Livonia.
