Corrections Plumbing Trade Instructor - SCI Phoenix

You will to use your knowledge to guide hands-on training that keeps the facility operating safely and efficiently.

This position provides classroom and hands-on instruction in the plumbing trade to inmates at SCI Phoenix, helping them develop practical skills that support both facility operations and vocational growth. As a Corrections Plumbing Trade Instructor, you will perform the following duties:

• Training Delivery: Teach plumbing methods, systems, and standard principles in both classroom and job site settings
• Work Supervision: Guide inmate work crews as they complete plumbing assignments and maintain orderly work environments
• Progress Monitoring: Document training outcomes, attendance, and daily assignment details for all assigned inmates
• Tool Control: Issue, track, and account for tools and materials while enforcing all safety and security policies
• Task Planning: Plan daily schedules, assign tasks, and inspect completed plumbing work for accuracy and quality

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday.
• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $51,868.00 (before taxes). A higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Five years of experience in the inspection, maintenance, repair, assembly, and installation of pipes, fittings, and fixtures used in heating, water, and drainage systems; or
• Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the plumbing trade; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the plumbing trade.

Other Requirements:

• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

• You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
