JOB TITLE:   Journeyman Plumber Maintenance Department

                                               

REPORT TO: Plumber Foreman

 

WAGE/HOUR STATUS:   Nonexempt

 

PAY GRADE:  M7

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

The Plumber is involved in the upkeep and maintenance of all District facilities in relation to plumbing requirements so that full educational use of the District facilities can be obtained.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • High School graduate or GED
  • Valid Texas driver’s license

 

Preferred:

  • Texas journeyman plumber license
  • Five+ years of progressively more responsible plumbing experience

 

 

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Possess the knowledge and skill in the use of the equipment, methods, materials, practices and tools used in the Plumbing trade.
  • Knowledge of the common hazards and necessary safety precautions, and ability to take safety precautions, including the use of power tools and equipment consistent with the Plumbing trade.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions, diagrams, and manufacturer’s manuals.
  • Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Supports in completing the Plumbing duties necessary to keep the District physical facilities in good repair and in use for their intended purpose.
  1. Prepares all assigned tasks to insure the effective, safe, and efficient completion of job assignments.
  2. Orders parts, materials after determining needs and requirements for assigned job.
  3. Actively participates and completes formal training in Plumbing codes, equipment, tools, and methods. Continually improves technical knowledge through independent research and study.
    1. Responds to emergency call-outs, as required.  (7 days a week/24 hours a day)
    2. May be required to work night and/or varying shifts.
    3. Keeps vehicle supplied with tools and materials.
    4. Follows all safety regulations related to any and all trade areas.
    5. Performs other general maintenance duties as assigned by supervisor, including but not limited to:
  1. Parking lot repair.
  2. Moving furniture and equipment.
  • Responding to emergency or crisis situations in the District.

 

Type of Equipment Used:

Ladders, scaffolds, safety eye goggles, small hand tools, various power tools and equipment necessary to perform required tasks, respirator

 

Audio/Visual Demands

Must have:

  1. Average hearing
  2. Corrected 20/20 vision
  3. Good depth perception
  4. Ability to distinguish between colors

Required Training

  1. 1st day orientation – Hazardous Communications/MSDS/Fire Safety/Proper Lifting Techniques/Eye Safety.
  2. Within (90) days will attend a 2-hour Asbestos Training Awareness.
  3. 24 hours of hands on training by the Licensed Plumber.
  4. On going Staff Development.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

The usual and customary methods of performing this job require the following: ability to work in a fast-paced, high-intensity work environment efficiently and effectively with frequent interruptions. Job may require prolonged periods of time sitting, reaching and repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer. Overtime is required as necessary.
