Job Description

Install, maintain and repair plumbing, mechanical and heating systems and equipment at the Charles Egeler Reception and Guidance Center.  To be in compliance with all State and Federal regulations and codes.  This position also supervises and trains prisoner work crews to help perform all these functions.

Required Education and Experience

Education 
Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.
 
Experience 
  
Plumber 10 
Five years of experience in the plumbing trade, including one year equivalent to a Plumber E9.

Alternate Education and Experience

Completion of a vocational training program in plumbing that includes commercial or industrial level instruction may be substituted for two years of experience assisting skilled trades people.

Additional Requirements and Information

Some positions within this class series are assigned job duties that may require possession of the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) issued by the Secretary of State as required by Public Act 346 of 1988 to operate a designated state vehicle.

Some positions within this class series are assigned job duties that may require possession of a journey plumber’s license issued by the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth.

Position Description

The Department of Corrections may screen out job applicants who have been convicted of a felony in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017. Applicants who have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible for employment with the Department of Corrections until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation.

New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) with either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their Non-Custody New Employee Training. PLEASE NOTE: Overnight travel may be required for NCNET.
