The Commercial Plumbing Manager is responsible for the day-to-day leadership, operational performance, and field execution of the Commercial Plumbing Department. This position oversees field personnel, manpower planning, productivity, quality standards, safety compliance, and project execution while working closely with the Construction Manager, Project Managers, and Assistant Project Manager.
The Commercial Plumbing Manager serves as the bridge between field operations and project management, ensuring projects are staffed appropriately, completed efficiently, and executed according to company standards. This role is focused on leadership, operations, and field performance rather than estimating, bidding, or contract administration.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop commercial plumbing field personnel, including foremen, lead installers, apprentices, and helpers.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback and training.
- Promote accountability, professionalism, and adherence to company standards.
- Assist with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and retention of commercial plumbing employees.
- Build a positive team culture focused on safety, quality, communication, and continuous improvement.
Field Operations
- Oversee daily field operations and workforce deployment across all commercial projects.
- Coordinate manpower planning and labor allocation to support project schedules and operational needs.
- Work closely with Project Managers and the Assistant Project Manager to ensure projects are properly staffed and supported.
- Monitor field productivity and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability.
- Conduct regular jobsite visits to evaluate progress, workmanship, safety, and employee performance.
- Assist foremen and field personnel in resolving technical and operational challenges.
- Ensure projects are completed according to plans, specifications, schedules, and company quality standards.
Project Execution Support
- Partner with Project Managers to support successful project delivery.
- Participate in project planning meetings and coordination efforts.
- Communicate labor, equipment, and resource needs to project management teams.
- Assist with scheduling and coordination of field activities.
- Identify potential project risks or delays and collaborate with project management to develop solutions.
- Support project closeout activities and punch list completion as needed.
Safety & Compliance
- Champion the company safety program and foster a culture of safety throughout the department.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and applicable plumbing codes.
- Conduct jobsite safety inspections and address corrective actions when necessary.
- Investigate incidents and near misses and implement preventive measures.
- Maintain required licensing, certifications, and training records for field personnel.
Department Performance
- Monitor labor productivity, quality metrics, and departmental performance indicators.
- Collaborate with the Construction Manager to achieve departmental goals and strategic initiatives.
- Provide recommendations for process improvements, workforce development, and operational efficiencies.
- Assist in maintaining department profitability through effective labor management and resource utilization.
QualificationsQualifications
- 5+ years of commercial plumbing experience.
- 3+ years of supervisory or management experience within commercial construction or plumbing.
- Strong knowledge of commercial plumbing systems, installation practices, and plumbing codes.
- Proven ability to lead field teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and construction documents.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Texas Journeyman or Master Plumbing License.
- Previous experience supervising multiple crews and commercial projects.
- Experience managing manpower planning and workforce development.
- Strong understanding of commercial construction processes and project execution.
