The Lead Plumbing Mechanic plays a critical role in overseeing and executing complex plumbing installations and repair projects across various residential sites. This position requires leading a team of plumbing professionals to ensure that all work complies with safety standards, building codes, and project specifications. The Lead Plumbing Mechanic is responsible for interpreting blueprints, coordinating with contractors and clients, and troubleshooting advanced plumbing systems to deliver efficient and reliable solutions. This role demands a proactive approach to managing resources, scheduling tasks, and mentoring junior team members to enhance overall team performance. Ultimately, the Lead Plumbing Mechanic ensures the successful completion of plumbing projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid plumbing license or certification as required by the state.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in plumbing installation and repair.
  • Proven experience in a lead or supervisory role within plumbing projects.
  • Strong knowledge of plumbing codes, safety regulations, and industry best practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited apprenticeship program in plumbing.
  • Experience with advanced plumbing systems such as hydronic heating, medical gas, or fire suppression systems.
  • Certification in OSHA safety standards or equivalent safety training.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or plumbing design software.
  • Strong project management or construction management experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise a team of plumbing mechanics and apprentices during installation, maintenance, and repair tasks.
  • Interpret and analyze blueprints, drawings, and specifications to plan plumbing system layouts and installations.
  • Install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems including pipes, fixtures, and water supply lines in compliance with local codes and regulations.
  • Coordinate with project managers, contractors, and clients to ensure project requirements and timelines are met.
  • Conduct inspections and testing of plumbing systems to identify issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Ensure all work is performed safely and in accordance with OSHA and other regulatory standards.
  • Train and mentor junior plumbing staff to develop their technical skills and knowledge.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and project progress.
