Job Summary
The Maintenance Technician, Mechanical, HVAC & Plumbing serves as Butcher Power Products’ skilled trades technician for building mechanical systems. This role diagnoses, repairs, and maintains HVAC, refrigeration, compressed air, plumbing, and facility mechanical systems across multiple BPP locations. The position is responsible for maintaining production-critical infrastructure, troubleshooting equipment issues, executing preventive maintenance activities, supporting facility projects, and ensuring reliable operation of mechanical systems in a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain HVAC, refrigeration, and ventilation systems.
  • Perform refrigerant handling and maintenance activities in compliance with EPA requirements.
  • Execute preventive maintenance programs for HVAC and mechanical systems.
  • Troubleshoot thermostats, controls, sensors, and building automation systems.
  • Maintain compressed air systems, pumps, motors, drives, and rotating equipment.
  • Support dust collection, weld fume extraction, and production ventilation systems.
  • Maintain dock equipment, overhead doors, and related mechanical systems.
  • Diagnose and repair plumbing systems, fixtures, valves, drains, water heaters, and piping systems.
  • Support emergency eyewash stations, safety showers, and backflow prevention programs.
  • Troubleshoot electrical controls and components associated with mechanical systems.
  • Respond to work orders and document maintenance activities.
  • Monitor and maintain critical spare parts inventory.
  • Coordinate and oversee HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical contractors.
  • Participate in commissioning and startup activities for new facilities and equipment.
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain required certifications.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent plus trade school, apprenticeship, military technical training, or equivalent experience.
  • EPA Section 608 Certification (Type II minimum).
  • Five or more years of commercial or industrial HVAC and mechanical maintenance experience.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical faults to the component level.
  • Experience with compressed air systems, pumps, motors, drives, and rotating equipment.
  • Working ability in commercial or industrial plumbing systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot motor controls, starters, contactors, relays, and VFDs.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and equipment manuals.
  • Knowledge of lockout/tagout procedures and electrical safety practices.
  • Ability to work independently across multiple locations.
  • Ability to document work clearly and accurately.
  • Valid California driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position.
Desired Qualifications
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification.
  • California General Electrician Certification.
  • NFPA 70E training or qualified person designation.
  • Experience in switchgear, switchboard, or electrical equipment manufacturing.
  • Experience with industrial dust collection or weld fume extraction systems.
  • Building automation or HVAC controls experience.
  • Experience commissioning mechanical systems in new facilities.
  • Boiler, chiller, or process cooling experience.
  • Backflow prevention assembly tester certification.
  • Journeyman plumbing experience or apprenticeship completion.
  • Medical gas, industrial piping, or process piping experience.
  • Welding, brazing, or pipefitting experience.
  • Experience with CMMS or work order management systems.
  • Forklift, aerial lift, scissor lift, or overhead crane certifications.
