$34 - $38 USD hourly
Are you an experienced repair plumber who enjoys solving difficult plumbing problems and takes pride in quality workmanship?
Can you confidently lead reroutes, repipes, and complex repairs while helping less-experienced technicians improve?
Would you like no emergency calls, no drain cleaning, excellent benefits, steady year-round work, and a potential career path into leak detection?
If so, we want to talk to you.
Bullseye Leak Detection is a family-owned leak detection and plumbing repair company serving Northern California since 2008. Our clients include homeowners, commercial and industrial facilities, municipalities, contractors, property managers, and insurance-related professionals.
We're looking for a Lead Repair Plumber who can independently execute challenging repairs, lead crews in the field, and uphold our standards for workmanship, integrity, and customer service. This position is based out of our West Sacramento branch and includes a mix of residential and commercial projects, often following detailed leak detection inspections.
What Makes This Position Different?
No emergency calls. No drain cleaning. No commission-driven sales pressure.
We focus on complex plumbing repairs, not emergency dispatch, clogged drains, or routine service calls. Our work rewards planning, technical judgment, and careful execution. Rather than racing from one routine service call to another, you'll have opportunities to work through demanding repairs, coordinate with experienced colleagues, and see technically challenging projects through to completion.
We also offer a path into specialized leak detection. Experienced plumbers can build on their knowledge of plumbing systems through diagnostic training, including scuba certification. For those interested, leak detection may offer a longer-term career direction that is more diagnostic and less physically demanding than heavy repair work.
Compensation & Benefits
Starting pay: $34–$38 per hour, based on experience, technical proficiency, and ability to lead complex repairs independently.
Our technicians average approximately 10 overtime hours per pay period. That equates to estimated annual cash earnings of $84,000–$94,000.
Estimated annual total rewards: $98,000–$108,000, combining hourly pay with employer medical contributions, 401(k) matching, and profit-sharing.
Our benefits include:
- Substantial employer-funded medical coverage, with a current illustrative employer contribution of approximately $10,500 annually
- 401(k) retirement plan with company match and profit-sharing program
- Dental, vision, and life insurance
- Two weeks of paid vacation and five paid holidays
- Periodic compensation reviews recognizing skills, experience, and performance
- Company work truck, fuel card, all professional tools, phone, and uniforms
- Paid technical and professional training, including scuba certification when applicable
- Stable full-time employment, primarily Monday through Friday
Required Experience & Technical Skills
At least seven years of professional repair plumbing experience is required. You must be able to lead complex jobs independently; experience limited mainly to drain cleaning or routine fixture replacement is not sufficient.
Qualified candidates should have strong experience with:
- Sub-slab plumbing: Locating, accessing, and repairing piping beneath slabs and foundations
- PEX piping, reroutes, and repipes: Planning and executing partial and complete system replacements
- Manifold systems: Testing, repairing, and modifying distribution systems
- Gas piping: Repairs and replacements in compliance with applicable codes
- Main water lines: Underground service-line repairs and replacements
- Water heaters: Residential and commercial replacement work
- Residential and commercial plumbing: Multiple piping materials, layouts, and access conditions
- California Plumbing Code: Applying code requirements to field repair decisions
Pool and spa plumbing experience is a plus, not a requirement. Because we're hiring for a lead role, we place particular importance on demonstrated responsibility for complex reroutes and repipes, not just participation on a crew. Applicants should be prepared to discuss repairs they've personally planned and completed.
What You'll Be Doing
Typical projects include slab repairs, domestic water reroutes, partial and full repipes, main water line replacements, gas line work, water heater replacements, pool and spa plumbing, and multi-day repair projects. Depending on the assignment, you may lead a crew or work independently, moving from the approved repair plan through testing, cleanup, documentation, and closeout.
As a lead technician, you'll:
- Plan and execute assigned work independently within approved job scopes and company standards.
- Direct assisting technicians and apprentices on assigned jobs, including hands-on training and workmanship guidance.
- Anticipate material, access, safety, and technical needs to keep work efficient and well organized.
- Escalate unexpected conditions, scope changes, and technical concerns promptly to the Repair Supervisor.
- Maintain clean, safe job sites and treat customers' property respectfully.
- Prepare accurate reports, annotated photos, and completion documentation on time.
- Communicate professionally with clients, the Repair Supervisor, the Repair Coordinator, and the inspection team.
- Keep assigned tools, materials, equipment, and vehicle organized and properly maintained.
This is a hands-on lead technician position, not an office management or supervisory role. You own the quality and execution of assigned work while operating within approved scopes and authority limits.
What We're Looking For
Beyond years of experience, we value plumbers who combine technical skill with sound judgment. You'll need to work efficiently without cutting corners, teach others effectively, communicate clearly with clients and teammates, and recognize when to request additional guidance.
You should also be comfortable using a phone or tablet for job reports and photographs, and have a valid driver's license with the ability to operate a company vehicle. Professionalism matters: clients need straightforward explanations, respectful communication, and confidence that the work is being done properly. We look for people who can solve problems without hiding mistakes or making unauthorized promises.
A current CA drivers license and clean DMV record are required. We check them. Do not apply if you don't have either.
We cover the Greater Sacramento Area. We are looking for employees inside our coverage area. We have hired plenty of folks who had the best of intentions with their lengthy commute, only to lose them because they tired of so much driving. Lesson learned.
Opportunity to Train in Leak Detection
Bullseye's leak detection technicians investigate complex water-loss problems using acoustic listening equipment, pressure testing, tracer gas, thermal imaging, moisture detection, and specialized pool inspection methods.
We offer qualified plumbers structured opportunities to learn these techniques, including professional scuba training for underwater pool and spa inspections. Prior leak detection experience is not required. Training opportunities and advancement depend on demonstrated ability, company needs, and individual development, not an automatic transition out of repair work. This pathway is especially well suited to experienced plumbers who enjoy investigation, learning new methods, and using their existing knowledge in increasingly technical ways.
Working Conditions & Schedule
Work takes place at residential, commercial, and industrial properties, indoors and outdoors. Duties can involve digging, excavation, jackhammering, lifting 50 pounds or more, extended standing, climbing, kneeling, overhead work, confined spaces, and uneven terrain. Outdoor conditions may be hot, cold, or wet. Certain assignments may involve pool or spa submersion after appropriate training and qualification.
We provide safety equipment and weather-related support, including shade, water, and protective gear.
This is a full-time, year-round role, generally Monday through Friday, 40+ hours per week, with regular overtime opportunities. No emergency service calls or drain cleaning assignments.
Why Bullseye?
We're built on accurate findings, honest recommendations, and repairs that last, not unnecessary sales. We value skilled tradespeople who take pride in their work and want to keep growing.
Whether you plan to become one of our strongest lead repair plumbers or pursue specialized leak detection training over time, you'll find challenging work and a company that invests in professional development.
